1. FC Union Berlin have been extremely busy before the transfer window have officially opened, and VfR Aalen's Collin Quaner is the latest to be added to their long list of new arrivals.

Quaner, who was relegated with Aalen this season, has been handed a two-year deal by the capital club. The 23-year-old struggled to score goals at the start of the season, though five goals in six games represented a real talent for goal-getting.

He has big boots to fill, as things stand, with Sebastian Polter set to go back to 1. FSV Mainz 05. However, Union have publicly stated that they'd like to keep him. So it remains to be seen whether Quaner will start or play second-fiddle to Polter.

Stephan Fürstner (Greuther Furth), Dennis Daube (St. Pauli) and Benjamin Kessel and Raffael Korte (Eintracht Braunschweig) have already been signed up on free transfers by Norbert Düwel, who seems set to achieve his goal - promotion to the Bundesliga by 2017.

"With Collin Quaner we get another young and viable player, but one who has already proven that he can score goals in this league. Collin brings many things that you need as a striker; size, athleticism, penetrating power and speed. I am sure he will continue to help us and makes unpredictable in attack," said Düwel.

Quaner added, "This is a fantastic club with a wonderful environment and a fantastic support. Union has a playing philosophy that suits me and the coach is also counting on young players. This whole package really pleased me."
