Thomas Schaaf resigned from Eintracht Frankfurt, on Tuesday, after just one season as head coach.

This comes following weeks of criticism from the Eintracht Frankfurt club bosses and alleged divide between himself and the players.

"Thomas Schaaf more than exceeded the target set by the club in this season with a ninth place finish and 43 points," said Frankfurt board chairman Herbert Bruchhagen, who publicly backed the coach in recent weeks, in a statement.

"The collaboration was always good. We very much regret that Thomas Schaaf will not continue with us down this path. We tried, in vain, to change his mind."

The former boss had one more year left on his contract after this past season and the fifty-four year old was expected to see out his final year.

The former Werder Bremen defender managed the Bremen U17’s to the Werder Bremen where he was at the helm of the Weserstadion between 1999 and 2013.

Since the winter break there was a u-turn in form for his side. In their last seven Bundesliga games, they managed to win just two games. This came as a big blow following Bundesliga top scorer Alex Meier fell victim to a lengthy injury.

After the final game of the season, it was denied that there was poor communication between him and his players.

Since the curtain fell down on the Bundesliga season, there have been two managerial changes. One of which the dismissal of Schalke 04’s short term manager Roberto Di Matteo.

Following Schaaf’s poor run of form, he saw his side slum to ninth in the Bundesliga. Ending the season with a 2-1 win over high-flyers Bayer Leverkusen.
