FC St. Pauli defender, Sebastian Schachten, will not be offered a new contract with the club, it was confirmed on Saturday.

The 30-year-old defender arrived from Borussia Mönchengladbach back in 2011 and went on to make almost 100 appearances for the Hamburg-based outfit.

Schachten took to the field 17 times this season and scored once against the 2. Bundesliga champions, FC Ingolstadt 04. However, he will be on the look for another club this summer.

"Due to financial losses, such as with the television money, we can not fill every position with two equally strong players. Personally speaking, the decision is a loss," declared sporting director Thomas Meggle. He also stated that Schachten would be offered the chance to say goodbye to the fans.

"For the new season we opted for Jan-Philipp Kalla and against Sebastian Schachten at right-back," added coach Ewald Lienen. "Of course we are grateful to Sebastian for his long-term commitment and wish him well in his future endeavors."
