FC St. Pauli confirmed, on Friday, that Robin Himmelmann had signed an extension with the club until 2017.

The 26-year-old stopper produced some quite fantastic performances to maintain St. Pauli's 2. Bundesliga status last season.

He arrived in 2012/13 from FC Schalke 04, and has gone from strength-to-strength since his move.

Originally second-choice to Hannover-bound Philipp Tschauner, Himmelmann went on to displace him and make 19 appearances in the 2014/15 campaign.

Himmelmann spoke of his admiration for the current environment he's in, "I am very pleased that I can continue to be part of this club and this city.

"St. Pauli is alternative and there is currently no alternative to FC St. Pauli for me."

Sporting director, Thomas Meggle, also gave his thoughts on the extension:

"I am delighted that Robin has made his position with the club clear and that he sees his sporting future here.

"He has proven in the past season that he is a good goalkeeper and how important he is for our team."
