Bayer 04 Leverkusen have confirmed the signing of Kyriakos Papadopoulos from fellow Westphalian side, FC Schalke 04.

The Greek centre-half struggled with two serious shoulder injuries last season, but still managed to score twice in 14 Bundesliga appearances.

He joins on a bumper five-year deal, following his impressive defensive displaying whilst on loan from Schalke.

After arriving from Olympiakos back in 2010, the now 23-year-old went on to play in almost 100 games for the Royal Blues, netting on seven occasions.

Following the Emir Spahic saga and the Bosnian's departure from the club, 'Papa' will be hopeful that he can now make that centre-back spot his own.

Speaking on his move, Papadopoulos was extremely pleased that he had made the switch:

"I'm really happy it's worked out. Despite having two bad shoulder injuries last season I had a fantastic time in Leverkusen.

"The club put their trust in me and made a lot of effort to sign me, which I'm very grateful for.

"I'm looking forward to my future in this great team which can still achieve so much."
