After Germany’s slightly disappointing 1-1 draw against Serbia’s U-21 in their first U-21 European cup match on Wednesday evening, Kevin Volland states that "the team must settle."

Playing his football for 1899 Hoffenheim, the 22-year old reacted following the draw, saying that Germany didn't: "win the game, but we didn't lose it either."

Two goals and a red card

Filip Djuricic opened the scoring in the eighth minute to set it 1-0 for Serbia but Emre Can, former Bayern München man now playing his football for Liverpool, equalised just nine minutes later with a decent shot from just outside the box, after sidestepping two Serbian defenders. In the 69th minute, Christian Günter from relegated SC Freiburg was sent off with a second yellow card due to diving.

On Saturday at 20.45 local time (Prague), Germany will play Denmark in their second group match. Their last group opponent are the hosts, Czech Republic, next Tuesday. In the U-21 European Championships, only eight teams in two groups participate in the tournament, with the two best teams of each group playing the semi-finals.

Semi-finals being the minimal target

Several players from the team, coached by former German international Horst Hrubesch, has let it be known that their minimal target is to reach the semi-finals, with the U-21 European title being the big dream.

England lost to Portugal in Group B, whilst Sweden also beat Italy in this years'  2015 UEFA European under-21 Championship matches.

Big names

The first and so far last time Germany won the title, was in Sweden in 2009 with now well-known stars like Hoffenheim’s capitan Andreas Beck, Borussia Dortmund’s new signing Gonzalo Castro and 2014 World Cup winners like Manuel Neuer, Jérôme Boateng, Mats Hummels, Benedikt Höwedes, Sami Khedira and Mesut Özil. A happy omen could be the fact that Germany tied their first game back then as well, against Spain in a 0:0.
