Borussia Dortmund will take a open-minded approach after reports suggest Ilkay Gündoğan may sign a new contract.

It was thought that the midfielder was definitely going to leave Dortmund this summer after turning down a new deal with the club.

The 24-year-old was linked with various clubs around the world, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United but the German international is thinking about signing a new deal.

It has been reported that he could now be considering penning a one-year extension to his current deal that would tie him to Dortmund until 2017 and, while sporting director Michael Zorc did not comment directly on that speculation, he said BVB were planning to hold "open and unbiased" talks with the player.

If Gündogan decides to not sign a new contract, Dortmund will be keen to sell him this summer to avoid another transfer like Robert Lewandowski to Munich where he left on a free. BVB value the player at around £15-18 million, although no team is yet to make a formal bid.

Summer recruitment well underway

Thomas Tuchel has already began the summer recruitment with the signings of Gonzalo Castro, Julian Weigl and 'keeper Roman Burki, and should Gündogan leave, that will free up the funds to make more additions to the squad. It has also been reported that Ciro Immobile could be on his way out after just one season at the club. According to speculation, the striker could move back to Italy.

Tuchel will be looking to strengthen his side further after a disappointing season last year, so any funds freed up, will be invested straight back into the transfer budget.
