VfB Stuttgart have signed the Polish goalkeeper Przemysław Tytoń from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven and German midfielder Lukas Rupp from relegated Bundesliga side, SC Paderborn.

An experienced man for Stuttgart

The Polish national goalkeeper, who played 15 times for his country, signed a two-year-deal at the Wasen. Last season, he played for Spanish side FC Elche on a loan from Eindhoven, making 32 La Liga appearances. The 28-year-old said that he was happy to be with VfB now because of the amazing fans and the club’s long tradition.

Robin Dutt, Stuttgart’s sporting director since January 2015, said that Tytoń had "all the abilities" to be a good keeper in the Bundesliga. In any case, his physicals are convincing; standing at 1,95m tall and weighing 88kg – which is good for a goalkeeper.

A good “box-to-box player”

24-year-old Lukas Rupp doesn’t have the same international experience as his future goalkeeper,  but was an essential part of André Breitenreiter’s Bundesliga team with  31 Bundesliga appearances in the past season for SC Paderborn, scoring four times and assisting twice.

Rupp says, like Tytoń, that VfB Stuttgart is a great and big club with a lot of tradition and that for him, it is a good possibility to stay in the Bundesliga.

Dutt is of course happy with the signing, saying that Rupp was “a good player with abilities in defence and offence”. He described him as a good “box-to-box player,” a midfielder who makes his ways from his own box to the opposing.

Another hard season?

VfB Stuttgart fought against relegation the whole season: after four match days, sporting director Fredi Bobic was sacked, two months later, head coach Armin Veh resigned from his job and Huub Stevens became new manager, saving the club from relegation. Therefore, the club’s officials want to strengthen the team to avoid another hard season.
