After the end of his contract with FC Bayern München, Peruvian international Claudio Pizarro wants to stay in the Bundesliga. “This would be perfect”, said the German top flight's most successful foreign goal scorer. He has netted 176 goals in his trophy-filled career.

One or two more years

Pizarro wishes to play another “one or two years” in professional football, and because of his family, preferably in Germany’s top division.

Back and forth

Pizarro joined Bundesliga side Werder Bremen back in 1999 from Peruvian club Allianza Lima, where he scored 25 goals in 44 appearances.

After two very successful years at Bremen he moved to German record champions Bayern München, scoring 71 goals in 174 matches from 2001 and 2007. Following a less successful time at Chelsea FC, he moved back to Werder Bremen, first on a loan and then permanently.

In summer 2012, he switched sides again and moved to Bayern, where he played 50 games in three years, scoring 16 goals.

Problems in the national team

For the Peruvian national team, has Pizarro played 81 games so far, scoring 20 goals. He took part in the 2004 Copa América and caused a stir in 2006, when a heavy dispute with national coach Franco Navarro became public.

Pizarro left the national team and deliberately missed a game against rivals Chile, because he preferred playing for Bayern München. Later, he told the media that he didn’t want to play ever again for Peru as long as Navarro was in charge.

A successful Copa América 2015 for Peru

In march 2011, he was nominated again for the national team for a test match against Ecuador. He missed the Copa América 2011 due to an injury. In the 2015 edition of the tournament, he took part with his team, reaching third place. Pizarro played four games, but didn’t get an appearance in the third-place play-off.

An experienced player

Pizarro is a very experienced player with a lot of games in the Bundesliga. He couldn’t show his potential at Chelsea in the Premier League, so a stay in Germany would be the best choice for his final years in professional football.
