Jakub Blaszczykowski will miss Borussia Dortmund’s pre season tour of Asia through injury, it has been revealed.

The Polish international will miss the tour through a thigh injury which has been diagnosed as “muscular problems”, thus missing an important part of their pre-season schedule.

However, it remains to be seen the extent of the injury and whether the 29-year old will miss Dortmund’s friendlies against VfL Bochum (July 17) and their trip to Turin to play the Champions League runners-up Juventus (July 25).

Pre season underway

Thomas Tuchel will manage his squad in his first tour at the club as they travel to Asia for the first time since 2007, making stops in Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.

They make this annual trip because of their main and long-term partner Evonik. They will play Kawasaki Frontale and Johor Southern Tigers as they prepare for the up and coming 2015/16 Bundesliga season, where they will start their campaign at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The new manager Tuchel was presented to the Signal Iduna Park crowd, yesterday in his sides warm up match against Team Gold in which the hosts annihilated the visitors 17-0 making Tuchel's introduction a happy one. Prior to that, Dortmund faced VfL Rhede and won 5-0, as Ilkay Gundogan celebrated his newly-signed contract with a goal.

Poor injury history

The news was announced on Borussia Dortmund’s official twitter, “Kuba won't be travelling to Asia with the team due to muscular problems."

The winger is to be side-lined for the sixth time in just under a year, the Poles worst injury came in 13/14 season where ruptured his cruciate ligaments which saw him miss 45 games, he also missed the end of the 2015/15 season due to a groin tear which saw him only manage 20 appearances all season.

Among the negatives attached to the injury stricken winger, it does give some positives to Thomas Tuchel’s side, players such as Jonas Hofmann and Kevin Kampl be given a chance to shine to their new boss as they both are fighting to be in his first squad come August.

Also in this tour, new signings Julian Weigl, Roman Bürki and Gonzalo Castro are set to be presented to the Asian crowd along with crowd favourite Shinji Kagawa, who is set to make a return to his homeland.

The Borussia Dortmund squad and staff are set to fly from Frankfurt to Tokyo, this evening.
