After a five day trial period, Piotr Trochowski secured a one-year contract with FC Augsburg. He also has the option to extend for a further year.

The 31-year-old midfielder was last at Sevilla, but his spell in Spain ended in controversial circumstances. However, back in his homeland, he will be keen to recapture the form that saw him star with Hamburger SV.

A very successful time in Germany, followed by a sorry spell with the Europa League champions

Beginning with Bayern Munich, he made a handful of appearances before making the switch north to HSV. Trochowski became a real fan-favourite at the club, making 259 appearances in the famous red shorts. He tallied up an impressive 36 goals and 55 assists in his seven season stay.

Despite winning a Europa League title with Sevilla, his La Liga stint was much less enjoyable than that of the Bundesliga. Trochowski's experience will be a massive boost as Augsburg make their maiden voyage into Europe, especially the 36 caps he earned with the German national team.

Trochowski, Weinzierl and Reuter have their say on the former's arrival

"The two days in the last week, where I was able to train with the team and also play the match, were extremely positive and confirmed my desire to join FCA," said Trochowski. The midfielder explained that he was "happy" that he had "the chance to return to the Bundesliga".

Head coach Markus Weinzierl commented on his "additional quality" and the new "squad depth" that the new midfielder has brought to the SGL Arena.

Stefan Reuter, sporting director with Augsburg, cited Trochowski's "eagerness to join and accept the challenges" that lay ahead. Above all else, he confirmed there was "a very good impression" left by the former Germany international.
