Bayer 04 Leverkusen has signed Kristina Sundov, the club have confirmed.

Sundov joins Leverkusen from MSV Duisburg, who were recently relegated to the second tier of German women's football following their second-from-bottom finish in the Frauen-Bundesliga last season.

Her new club did not have the greatest season either and were fully entangled in the scrap for survival, but they eventually managed to avoid the drop by three crucial points, finishing ninth in the table.

Manager delighted with signing

Thomas Obliers, manager of Leverkusen, spoke to the club's official website about Sundov's arrival, and expressed his excitement with the signing, citing it as one that will give the squad "competition in attack" as well as "strengthening [their] attacking threat" in general.

He believes that the Croatian international will bring an option of "powerful play" to the side and is confident that Sundov will "do very well with [the team's] style of play."

Though the Croatian international only managed two goals last season for Duisburg, the team only scored 18 goals as a whole as they were relegated to the second tier. This was her first campaign in Germany too, and now that is under her belt, she can crack on and help improve Leverkusen in the coming campaign.

Sundov will add experience to the team

The 28-year-old forward, who can play in a variety of different attacking positions, though primarily as a striker, will not only bring versatility to Leverkusen's side, but experience too. Sundov's new club are the eighth of her senior career, and during this time she has developed into a very intelligent player and a wise head for her side.

She played in the UEFA Women's Champions League, when it was know as the UEFA Women's Cup, whilst with Swiss side FFC Zuchwil 05 for four years, between 2005 and 2009, and has also represented Croatia 27 times at senior level.
