Bochum continued their hot start to the season by defeating newly promoted Duisburg at home by a score of 3-0, with all three goals coming in the second half.

It was really a complete performance from Gertjan Verbeek's men as the three goals were scored by three different footballers within a thirty minute span as well.

Lackluster first half

The hosts started the brighter of the two sides, as was predicted, but really failed to make an impact in the final third of the pitch. Terrazzino had the first opportunity of the match in the eighth minute, however, his shot fell straight into the hands of the Dusiburg goal keeper.

Duisburg has to be given a little credit in the opening half because their interesting 5-1-3-1 was stifling the potent attack of the Bochum.

Bochum's no. 10 had the best opportunity to score in the opening 45 minutes as he saw his fantastic header get tipped just over the bar by Ratajczak.

HT: Bochum 0-0 Duisburg

For all the lack of action in the first half of play, the second half was completely different as the Dutchman finally found ways to break down Duisburg's very defensive formation.

Bochum strike first

Timo Perthel finally found the back of the net to open the scoring just eleven minutes after the halftime interval thanks to a well-timed finish from outside the box from the left. The ball took a slight deflection off of Meißner and froze the shot stopper.

Twelve minutes later, young 21-year-old Onur Bulut finished off an excellent move from the right hand side. This is a big confidence booster for the youngster as he only scored once in 13 appearances last season. Hopefully he will kick on from here and will show just what a good talent he is supposed to be.

The final goal of the afternoon was scored with jus six minutes remaining in the match through Sebastian Terodde. After scoring a whopping 16 goals last season, the veteran striker will be happy to get on the board.

This goal was all started by a turnover in the middle of the pitch. Janik Haberer sprinted down the pitch and executed a perfectly weighted ball to Terodde who rounded the keeper and slotted it home easily.

Conclusion

After a very dull first half performance, Verbeek will have to be extremely happy with what he saw from his squad after the interval as they picked apart a woeful Duisburg.

Next week should be a breeze for the hosts as they take on Salmrohr in the Pokal before switching their focus back to the league where they will face Freiburg in two weeks time.

Meanwhile, Duisburg will have to figure out some way to stop conceeding goals otherwise they will find themselves in a big whole before the winter break.

The Zebras will face a tough test in the Pokal as they take on Schalke before playing fellow newly promoted side Arminia Bielefeld in what should be a very evenly contested match.
