In their first ever Bundesliga campaign, Ralph Hasenhüttl's FC Ingolstadt 04 travel to the Coface Arena in what proves to be an interesting first Bundesliga clash, as they take on Roger Schmidt's 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday afternoon. FCI will be the 54th team to compete in the German top flight.

1. FSV Mainz 05 team news

With the departure of club icon, and talisman, Shinji Okazaki in the summer; it's widely expected that Florian Neiderlechner will start in place of the Japanese international who joined Leicester City. However die Nullfünfer will be hoping that another summer signing and Japanese international will fill the void left by Okazaki, that being Yoshinori Muto

The only expected absence is Elkin Soto, so Fabian Frei will more than likely pair with new club captain Julian Baumgartlinger in the heart of midfield; whilst after some fine form over the course of the last campaign Yunus Malli will start along side Muto and another new arrival, Maximilian Beister in the advanced midfield trio behind Neiderlechner.

Predicted line-up: Karius; Brosinski, Bell, Bungert, Bengtsson; Baumgartlinger, Frei; Beister, Malli, Muto; Neiderlechner.

Die Schanzer will be more or less at full strength for their first ever Bundesliga game, with Danilo Soares the only expected absentee. The absence of the Brazilian left back is expected to be filled by Markus Suttner who arrived at the Audi Sportparkfrom Austria Vienna.

Otherwise it will be more or less the same line-up that took the 2. Bundesliga by storm last season. Elias Kachunga will more than likely start as a central striker, after his move for little over £1 million from SC Paderborn. Despite injury concerns Matthew Leckie should be fit to start; the Australian was a key player for die Schanzer last season after his move from FSV Frankfurt.

Manager, Ralph Hasenhüttl was confident and in high spirits heading into the game. The Austrian said, "We are well prepared and looking forward to what comes". Whilst club captain Marvin Matip commented "I have a very good feeling for Saturday!".

Predicted line-up: Özcan; Da Costa, Matip, Hübner, Suttner; Roger, Groß,  Morales; Lex, Leckie, Kachunga.

Form

Both sides had varying levels of success in their first competitive outings of the season, in last weekends first round of the DFB Pokal

Die Nullfünfer made the daunting trip to the East of Germany and Energie Cottbus, however a professional performance followed and there were signs that this season could be a succesful one for Roger Schmidt's side. Fabian Frei, Christian Clemens and Jairo all got on the scoresheet in a comprehensive 3-0 win at the Stadion der Freundschaft

However Saturdays opponents didn't fair as well, as they were beaten at fourth tier SpVgg Unterhaching 2-1. Despite a late Moritz Hartmann goal die Schanzer were dumped out of the first round of the DFB Pokal for the second year running.

Previous meetings

Both clubs have only met each other on two prior occasions, both in the 2008/09 2. Bundesliga season and currently it's on win a piece. FC Ingolstadt 04 ran out 3-0 winners in the Rhineland Palatinate and also scored three at home, but were defeated 4-3 by the visitors.

However die Schanzer will be encouraged by how their fellow promoted sides have faired with 1. FSV Mainz over the previous seasons. Both Greuther Fürth and Eintracht Braunschweig won at the Coface Arena whilst SC Paderborn drew 2-2 last season.
