TSG 1899 Hoffenheim have completed the signing of Felipe Pires from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, on an undisclosed fee.

Pires, 20, turned down a contract extension at the Red Bull owned club in favour of a move to the Bundesliga, with just one-year left on his contract at RB Salzburg.

The midfielder could be soon loaned out to 2. Bundesliga club FSV Frankfurt, with just details needing to be finalising ahead of his loan move, according to local reports in Germany.

The Brazilian moved to Red Bull Salzburg from FC Liefering during the 2014/15 winter break, making 15 competitive appearances for the Austrian side, including the Europa League.

Pires’ best moment in a RB Salzburg top came in the Samsung Cup final against Austria Vienna, netting the decisive goal last season.

Strictly business at Hoffenheim this summer

Hoffenheim have recently completed the signing of Chilean international Eduardo Vargas, who finished top goalscorer in this year’s Copa America.

Pires will join the likes of Fabian Schär, Pavel Kaderábek and Jonathan Schmid when he returns from FSV Frankfurt, whilst Hoffenheim have also brought in Mark Uth from SC Heerenveen and Marko Maric from Rapid Vienna.

A welcome addition to FSV Frankfurt?

FSV Frankfurt currently find themselves sitting ninth in the second division after four games, an improvement from last seasons’ 13th placed finish, which saw then manager, Benno Möhlmann claim just 39 points, also finishing with the worst home record.

With just three goals scored in four matches this season, FSV Frankfurt are in need of an attacking impetus within the side.

A pacey and strong winger, Pires is a player who likes to get forward and could provide Zlatko Dedic with the service he truly needs. The attacking threat of the Brazilian will also take the pressure off some of his teammates, namely 20-year-old Besar Halimi who has found the net on two occasions, in four games.

Pires wouldn’t be the first name from Hoffenheim to join FSV Frankfurt. Earlier in the season, FSV completed the loan signing of In-Hyeok Park, in a bid to get the South Korean some first team games under his belt.
