Hertha BSC have confirmed the signing of VfB Stuttgart striker Vedad Ibisevic on a free transfer.

The finer details of his contract are not yet known, though he did successfully pass his medical and will join up with his new team-mates after Bosnia and Herzegovina's internationals against Andorra and BelgiumMichael Preetz said that the club were "delighted with the signing" on Twitter, while Ibisevic tweeted the famous phrase "Ich bin ein Berliner" on his official account.

Time to move on after a few tough years

His decision to leave Stuttgart comes as absolutely no surprise, after what was a tough recent few years for the forward. He had yet to feature in any of the Swabians' games this season and made just 14 appearances last term, notching up one assist. It is a far cry from the form he showed in the campaigns previous, as he scored 33 goals and added 15 assists in just 72 games - contributing at least a goal every other game.

The 31-year-old joined Stuttgart from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim after a hugely impressive time with the Sinsheim side. After a tough first season in the 2. Bundesliga, the Bosnian exploded onto the scene and scored an incredible 18 goals in 17 matches and a further seven assists. Another two solid years would follow before he was eventually snapped up by Stuttgart.

Ibisevic will be hoping to bolster the capital club's attack and help them build on a solid start to the campaign. Hertha have four points from their opening two games, but face Borussia Dortmund in a tough third outing. He'll be up against Julian Schieber and Salomon Kalou for a place in the starting eleven, making him the third recognised striker at the club. However, the other two can also be used out wide and that could be a factor in who starts.
