During the Netherlands' one-nil defeat to Iceland on Thursday evening, Arjen Robben hobbled off with a groin problem. It was then diagnosed as a groin strain by the Bayern Munich doctors, and they announced that he will miss the next four months of action.

Robben had started brightly in the game, having a strong shot well-saved by the Icelandic stopper and then drove a free-kick just past the post. However, midway through the half, he knocked the ball out of play of his own accord. It looked like he wanted some treatment but was not immediately clear that it was a serious as a month on the sidelines.

For a change, Bayern are not lost without the Dutchman's presence. Douglas Costa, their star summer signing from Shakhtar Donetsk, has been a revelation and had Bundesliga defences running scared before the international break. The Brazilian trickster has earned countless plaudits so far this term and has four assists to his name after just three games, as well as a goal of his own.

What games will he miss?

Robben will be miss the Dutch's crucial qualifier against Turkey, which could see them fall out of the running for EURO 2016 qualification. After picking up just ten points from seven games, new coach Danny Blind has a mountain to climb if they are to even earn a play-off spot. Defeat to the Turks this weekend could see them relying on other result to go their way to do so.

Back at Bayern, the Bundesliga champions have a few potential tricky games during the next month of fixtures. They face FC Augsburg, SV Darmstadt 98, VfL Wolfsburg1. FSV Mainz 05 and possibly Borussia Dortmund, though he may be fit in time for the latter. Robben is also likely to miss games against Olympiakos and Dinamo Zagreb but the Bavarians will be confident of getting through the aforementioned matches without him.
