On Tuesday, Yussuf Poulsen extended his contract with RB Leipzig by a further two years. The talented forward now has a deal running to 2019 at the Saxony side.

A top talent that many would love to sign

Poulsen is hot property and has attracted the attention of Europe's top clubs in recent years. Quick, tall, strong and can finish, the Dane is an ideal forward to play in the lone striker role that so many of those teams play with.

German giants and Borussia rivals, Dortmund and Mönchengladbach, were reportedly interested in bringing the 21-year-old but Leipzig were desperate to keep hold of their most highly-rated prospect. Even if Poulsen does depart, they will be rewarded a healthy financial sum in return.

After joining in July 2013 from Danish side Lyngby Boldklub, he has gone from strength to strength and netted 22 goals in 76 games to date. Poulsen can also play on the wings and also has 12 assists to his name.

During his time in Germany's lower leagues, the Dane has appeared eight times for the national team and has already scored for Morten Olsen's men. His increased game time came with a fantastic performance last term, where he netted eleven times.

Rangnick and Poulsen have their say

Head coach and sporting director, Ralf Rangnick, spoke of his 'delight' at tying down one of his key men. Rangnick said that 'good and trusting discussions' helped lead to a 'good package' for both player and club.

Poulsen himself admitted that he was 'happy to have clarity' now that he has extended, always well as describing the possibilities going forward as 'simply outstanding'.

Poulsen will be hoping that he can fire the Bulls to glory on Friday night when they face 1. FC Heidenheim. Frank Schmidt's outfit are just a single goal behind their visitors after an equally strong start to the season.
