Kaiserslautern and 1860 Munich played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena on Saturday afternoon.

1860, who fell to defeat last time out, made two changes from that side. Marius Wolf and Korbinian Vollmann were restored to the starting line-up in place of Valdet Rama and Michael Liendl. For Kaiserslautern, a promising start had quickly turned sour. They also made two alterations following defeat last weekend, bringing in Patrick Ziegler and Robert Pich for Stipe Vucur and Markus Karl.

1860 take the lead early on

The early signs showed that the visitors had come to win the game and were keen to go forward at every opportunity. The midfield as immediately trying to thread through balls forward and stretch the 1860 defence, with Vitus Eicher having to make a smart save with his feet to deny Alexander Ring.

However, like their opening few games of the season, the start had flattered to deceive and the hosts soon had an opening goal. Milos Degenek was the beneficiary of a poor clearance from Marcus Piossek, who could only find the Lions' summer signing on the edge of the area. Degenek marched onto the ball and struck it as sweet as a nut, and his 20-yard drive flew past the helpless Marius Müller in goal.

That goal essentially killed the game, not as a contest but more the intensity. Neither side seemed overly excited when going forward, especially Kaiserslautern who should have been desperate to get back into the contest. There were a few half chances but nothing of note, though that was no problem for the hosts and they held a half-time lead thanks to Degenek's strike.

Kaiserslautern level the game

Kaiserslautern finally began to come forward in the second half and showed their class in doing so. A swift, snappy move played in Chris Löwe although his effort rippled the side netting. The back of the net would bulge soon after, however, as Ruben Jenssen took aim from range and caught Eicher off guard. A poor piece of play in defence allowed Jenseen to pounce and he took full advantage to level the scores.

The visitors now had a new verve to them and could have won the game late on but for a fantastic double save from Eicher. That was the way it remained after some late pressure from both, and a point apiece was the fairest result on the day.
