Goals from Ranislav Jovanovic and Korbinian Vollmann canceled each other out as Sandhausen and 1860 Munich failed to get the better of each other.

Sandhausen fail to convert early openings

Sandhausen started well and a good move almost handed them the opening goal. Some fine passing play led to Andrew Wooten laid the ball off to Denis Linsmayer, who curled one just over the bar from 20 yards out. The hosts had an even better chance soon after when Milos Degenek was robbed in the middle of the park, though Jakub Kosecki couldn't apply the finish and was denied well by Vitus Eicher.

The young shot-stopper was called into action again when Robert Zillner rifled the ball towards goal from 25 yards out. A sweet strike that arrowed towards the far corner was expertly kept out by Eicher, who somehow managed to claw the ball away for a corner. 1860 finally mustered a response midway through the half as Korbinian Vollmann let fly with a free-kick that crept just over the bar.

Two quick goals see the sides level at half-time

Alois Schwartz's side finally struck first blood in the minutes leading up to half-time. Ranislav Jovanovic was the man to break the deadlock and he pounced on a loose ball from a Zillner shot to do so. His initial corner was cleared but he volleyed the rebound back into the box. Eicher couldn't get enough purchase on the clearance and the Serb was on hand to poke into the net, giving a great sense of relief to the home faithful.

Just as it looked like Sandhausen would head into the break with the lead they deserved, 1860 struck back. It looked like their move forward had been broken down but a kind bounce from an unsuspecting home defender let Daylon Claasen play in Vollmann. The attacker had gone close earlier in the game but made no mistake this time around, as he drove the ball low and hard across Marco Knaller and into the bottom corner.

1860 were dealt a late blow, however, with Kai Bülow being forced off through injury. Rodnei was the man to replace him and could have witnessed a second strike in quick succession for the Lions late in the half, although Gary Kagelmacher's strong shot was brilliantly kept out by Knaller.

Second half fails to live up to the first

The second half began on a knife edge and tensions were high between the two sides. That seen a flurry of early bookings and not too many chances from open play, but Knaller and Eicher had to be confident in dealing with several set-piece situations.

It was a half that had seen little to no goal mouth action but some abject defending from Sandhausen gave Claasen the chance to put his side in front. A poor pass forward was collected by Daniel Adlung and he exploited the incredibly high defensive line of his opponents by threading through to the South African, only to blaze over the bar moments later.

Despite their best efforts, neither side could force a way through and were not able to grab the game's crucial third goal. A draw, on the balance of play, was a fair result.
