Despite dominating from start to finish, Wolfsburg couldn't quite secure all three points against their local rivals, Hannover.

Wolfsburg take a lead into the break

The opening stages of the game were controlled by the Wolves and Max Kruse came close to giving his side the lead, only to see Ron-Robert Zieler make a good ave from his volley. Hannover's best opportunity fell the way of Artur Sobiech and it took some fantastic defending from Diego Benaglio and Naldo to prevent the Pole from scoring.

Wolfsburg eventually took the lead when a raking ball from Ricardo Rodriguez found Daniel Caligiuri. The Italian brought the ball down and almost immediately crossed for Bas Dost. The Dutchman charged into the six yard area, unmarked, and powered a header past the helpless Zieler. The Hannover 'keeper was understandably annoyed at the poor defensive efforts of his side.

That gave the home side a lead at the break but it didn't come easily. Hannover were growing in confidence with every passing minutes and the attacking efforts of Michael Frontzeck's side were to bare fruit eearly on in the second half.

Kiyotake scores special equaliser

The equaliser for the visitors came in similar fashion to how they fell behind. Kenan Karaman was the creator, as he whipped in a quite marvelous ball from the right flank. He picked out the run of Hiroshi Kiyotake was percision and the Japanese scored in spectacular fashion. Kiyotake controlled with his chest before volleying in from 18 yards with the help of the bar, sending the Hannover fans, players and coaches into joyous celebration.

Neither side could change the game drastically with their changes, and Maximilian Arnold and Rodriguez's chances didn't really trouble Zieler. Only Arnold's last gasp effort really provided him with cause for concern, though that slipped past the post. Wolfsburg would have been rather disappointed to not take all three points, while Hannover could count themselves lucky to take all three points.
