Augsburg's struggles continue on all fronts as the German side were handed a devastating defeat over Partizan Belgrade, losing 1-3 at the WWK Arena on Thursday night.

The first chance of the night fell to the hosts as a Tim Matavz volley, from the top of the box, hit the top of the cross bar and the visitors were able to eventually clear away the danger. The opening ten minutes of the match were fairly even, with both sides able to get some possession, but the chances between the sides were at a minimum as Augsburg had the only shot, 30 seconds after kickoff.

Then, in the 19th minute, Paraguayan international, Bobadilla, worked his way excellently down the right side of the pitch, battling a Partizan defender before feeding Dong-Won Ji with a pass that could not be controlled by the left-winger well enough as he got a poor shot away. Bobadilla had a go from 27 yards away, but the shot was saved comfortably by the visiting goalkeeper, 29 minutes into the match.

Partizan take the lead

31 minutes is when Partizan got their first decent chance of the match and it resulted in a goal through young Andrija Zivkovic. Stefan Babovic played a long ball over the top that fell directly into the path of the goal scorer. Zivkovic took it down with one touch, worked his way towards the right side of the box before rifling his effort into the bottom left hand corner.

Halftime: FC Augsburg 0-1 Partizan Belgrade

Despite some pretty even play by both sides, it was the visitors who converted their opportunity shortly after the hour mark, giving Partizan a huge advantage which also quieted the Augsburg crowd.

Ji, unfortunately, defended poorly off of a set piece to give the away side their second goal of the match, less than ten minutes after the hour mark. His foot was in the wrong spot at the wrong time and the ball deflected up into the goal.

Three minutes after Belgrade had doubled their lead, in the 57th minute, the hosts cut it in half through a nice build up. Bobadilla found Halili Altintop with a backheeled pass before immediately playing it back to where it came. There was no mistake with the finish with Bobadilla tapping the ball into the empty net with the opposing goal keeper caught slightly out of position.

Zivkovic's second seals the victory

Zoran Milinkovic's side restored their two goal advantage five minutes later. Augsburg had failed to clear their lines completely and eventually, Zivkovic found the back of the net after a deflection caught the Augsburg shot stopper going the wrong way,

This was not a very good result for the hosts as they should have been more competitive against a side that has not lived up to their own expectations in Serbia.

In match day three of the Europa League, Augsburg will face Dutch outfit, AZ on the road, while Partizan Belgrade will take on Athletic Club, who also have their own struggles.
