In what looked to be the Group C decider before the tournament started, Germany and Mexico have not disappointed. The winner will secure top spot, with the other resigned to second place.

Germany keen to keep up 100% record

Christian Wück's men triumphed once again on matchday two, securing a stunning 4-0 victory against Argentina. They managed to net four for the second time in succession, too, having already put for past Australia on the opening day.

They will be incredibly confident of making it three wins from three, despite the strength of the Mexican side. With Felix Passlack, Vitaly Janelt and Johannes Eggestein in such a rich vein of form, it will be tough for any opposition defence to keep them quiet for the next few weeks. The defence also looked much more solid, and Constantin Frommann is a force to be reckoned with should his back-line be breached.

Mexico need three points to top the group

After an impressive 2-0 win over Argentina on the opening matchday, Mexico couldn't quite find a way to get past a stubborn Australia side on matchday two. The Latin Americans, who have been to the last two finals, did play well but were unable to get a crucial goal.

They now need to beat Germany to secure top spot and a place in the last 16 as group winners, though they have - except for a mathematical miracle - made it into the next round. Goals have come from defenders for the most part this tournament, but the forward players will have to shine against the Germans.

What they're saying

Mexico coach Mario Arteaga gave his thoughts to FIFA.com after their game with the Aussies, “It was a tough match against a team that defended really well. We were unlucky in the first half, when we had good chances." He added, "If we had converted one, the result would had been very different, but Australia knew our style of play and how to stop us. In the end, it’s a fair result, and it’s not bad because we have one more point."

Germany captain, Felix Passlack, spoke to the FIFA website also: “We didn’t expect a match like this. We thought it would be a very tough game, but with the first two goals we got a big advantage and it was easier. Our intention was to play as we played in the first half against Australia, but keeping the level the whole match."

Team news

Joel Abu Hanna, Dzenis Burnic, Salih Özcan and Meris Skenderovic are all at risk of missing the last sixteen, should they pick up a booking in this game. The same can be said for Francisco Venegas, Pablo López and Jose Esquivel on the Mexican side. Otherwise, both teams have nothing to worry about on the injury front and can give their all to secure top spot.

Predicted line-ups
