RB Leipzig won their home game against Fortuna Düsseldorf 2-1 thanks to an impressive first hour of play.

Leipzig were the better team after the start and had the first couple of small opportunities, but failed to trouble Michael Rensing in the Fortuna Düsseldorf goal.

Dominat Leipzig in the first half

After 12 minutes, Marcel Sabitzer played a good cross into the Fortuna box, but Leipzig capitan Dominik Kaiser - who recently extended his contract with the Roten Bullen - could not quite get the contact he wanted on the ball and it went wide.

Five minutes later, Fortuna forward Joel Pohjanpalo stopped a Willi Orban header from inside the box on the goal line to prevent his side from falling behind.

After 41 minutes, Leipzig had another good opportunity when Kaiser hit ball from just outside the box with his left foot, but Rensing saw it coming and stopped the ball without any difficulty.

Late opener

When it looked like it would be with a goal-less first half, Ralf Rangnick's men reacted and scored the opener. After a shot by Lukas Klostermann from distance, Emil Forsberg reached the ball to make it 1-0 just before the half-time whistle.

Fortuna started better into the second half. In the 53rd minute, RB Leipzig goalkeeper Fabio Coltorti had some problems with Kerem Demirbay's free kick, but Pohjanpalo could not take advantage of the free ball and his shot from close-range went wide.

Fortuna mount late fight-back

In the 64th minute, the Roten Bullen made it 2-0 with what seemed to be the deciding goal for this match. After a stunning solo run by Emil Forsberg, the Swedish international passed the ball to Marcel Sabitzer, who had no difficulties to make it 2-0.

But after 75 minutes, a corner by Demirbay reached Karim Haggui and he met the ball perfectly, heading home to make it 1-2. He had given hope to the visiting fans and players that a comeback was possible.

The Fortuna players tried to create opportunities to score the equaliser but they struggled to make it near Coltorti's goal. Therefore, the game ended in a 2-1 win for RB Leipzig, who climb up on second place behind Freiburg, who are yet to play this weekend.
