Patrick Erras has extended his contract with 1. FC Nürnberg, having been promoted to the first-team squad this season. There is no indication as to how many more years that the promising youngster has signed on for.

A big impact

The talented 20-year-old has been with the club since 2007, and has advanced through the youth ranks from under-12 upwards. Equally comfortable at centre-half as he is in the usual defensive midfield position, he has forged a promising partnership with Hanno Behrens in the middle of the pitch. To add to nine impressive nine appearances, he has also scored two goals.

It has been a much better term for the Franconians all-round, especially given their woeful showing last season. The board have been fully justified in sticking with René Weiler after a tough start, and they new sit on the cusp of the automatic promotion places. Five wins in the final five games of 2015 have seen them springboard into third, three points clear of St. Pauli and five behind SC Freiburg in the race for the top flight.

Bornemann and Erras have their say

Andreas Bornemann, sporting director at the club, had his say on the extension: "Patrick is a home-grown player, who has enjoyed his footballing education in the youth academy. He was thrown into the deep end with the pros in a difficult period and has shown that he is a mainstay of the team. He is a young player who still has the potential to develop."

Erras himself also spoke to the club website, "I am grateful for the confidence and trust of 1. FC Nürnberg. I am looking forward to the Rückrunde and the next few years in red and black." His side will return to action on February 6th, as they travel to 1860 Munich.
