Sascha Mölders has joined 1860 Munich on loan from FC Augsburg for the remainder of the 2015-16 season, the clubs confirmed on Tuesday afternoon. The two teams also agreed to silence on the details of a confirmed buy-out option at the end of the loan spell.

Can Mölders drag the Lions out of the mire?

The 30-year-old striker joins 1860 in search of first-team football, having made just four substitute appearances in the Bundesliga this season. Across all competitions, including the DFB-Pokal, he has featured for a total of 72 minutes. He did, however, manage a goal and an assist in that time.

He Bavarian club are in desperate need a regular goalscorer to supplement Rubin Okotie. The Austrian has netted seven times this campaign, but only Marius Wolf has managed to score more than once. Given that the Lions currently sit second bottom, Mölders must hit the ground running.

Kreuzer and Mölders give their thoughts on the move

"We are delighted that Sascha will be in the attack for us during the second half of the season," said sporting director, Oliver Kreuzer. He added, "In the fight against relegation he is the type player that we wanted."

Kreuzer also spoke of his new signing's "sufficient experience in the first and second division" as well as his "proven goalscoring at all levels".

Mölders also spoke to the club website on the move, "I had very good discussions with Oliver Kreuzer, so I decided to switch to Sechzig. I am convinced that we will stay up."

He also highlighted his previous experiences when it comes to battling against the drop, "I know about the relegation battle from my time at both FSV Frankfurt and Augsburg - also, because the situation seemed hopeless and often we still always managed [to stay up], I am very optimistic [about beating the drop]."
