Domi Kumbela has left SpVgg Greuther Fürth after only half a year. The German-Congolese striker only played six games for the Kleeblätter, with only one in the starting XI, without scoring a goal after joining the 2. Bundesliga side from Turkish club Kardemir Karabükspor.

Good years with Eintracht Braunschweig

Between 2010 and 2014, Kumbela played for Eintracht Braunschweig and helped the Löwen to promote to the Bundesliga in the 2012/13 campaign with 19 goals. But after one year in Germany's top flight, at the end of which Braunschweig got relegated again, Kumbela decided to swap the club from Lower Saxony for a new job in Turkey.

"We hoped for more when we signed him," commented Fürth's coach, Stefan Ruthenbeck. But already in November, he admitted: "At the end of the day, it is not not enough [in reference to his performances]." Instead of improving his standing in the team, he made himself more disliked by posting a picture on Instagram using the f-word several times. Back then, Greuther Fürth's manager Michael Mutzel said that it was not acceptable.

Will he find another German club?

Kumbela joined Braunschweig in 2010, but played all his youth football for several smaller clubs in Germany after his family left his birth country, Zaire, just after he was born. He played for 1. FC Kaiserslautern and SC Paderborn 07 before joining the Löwen back in 2010.

The Spielvereinigung Greuther Fürth are currently in the middle of the pack in the 2. Bundesliga. After earning 25 points out of 19 games before the winter break, the men from the Rönhof are sitting in 10th position. They are well clear of the relegation zone and, despite a great start, are beginning to slip away from the promotion race. Just two wins in their last 10 have seemingly put pay to a return to the top flight.
