Ariane Hingst has been unveiled as the new assistant coach for VfL Wolfsburg Frauen.

It is Hingst's first coaching role since she announced her retirement in 2013, with the most notable spell of her playing career coming in the form of a 10-year stint with 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam.

With a ton of experience at the top level, having claimed every title in her country's domestic game and both the World Cup and the European Championship with Germany, there is no doubt that she can bolster a coaching team who are looking to improve on a poor start to the current Frauen-Bundesliga campaign.

Kellermann pleased with back-up

Speaking to Wolfsburg's official website, manager Ralf Kellermann expressed his delight with Hingst's arrival, with him excited to work with a player who "has left her mark on German women's football."

"We are very happy that we have been able to excite such an internationally experienced player," he continued, adding that now the coaching team "can distribute the increasingly complex daily tasks onto several, more targeted, shoulders."

Hingst also spoke about her new chapter, saying she is "delighted" about the prospect of working with some "very competent backroom staff" and a team she described as both "professional" and "super."

Wolfsburg looking to make up for slow start

Wolfsburg might sit second in the league at the winter break, but they are 12 points behind leaders Bayern Munich, who look to have the title wrapped up already.

However, they are still in the UEFA Women's Champions League as we prepare for the quarter-final stage, where they will face Italian side Brescia, and also the DFB Pokal, readying themselves for a semi-final clash with SC Freiburg.

Even though the league looks to be done and dusted, there are still two trophies available for the Wolves, and Kellermann will hope Hingst's arrival can help them clinch at least one.
