Swiss record champions FC Basel have put a stop to selling their 18-year-old shooting star Breel Embolo. VfL Wolfsburg are now forced to look for a new attacking player to sign during the winter transfer window.

Klaus Allofs is in a tight spot

VfL sporting director Klaus Allofs is in a tight spot right now after failing, once again, to sign the Swiss talent Embolo. Bas Dost, who will be absent for a long time after suffering a metatarsal fracture, needs to be replaced at Wolfsburg and the 59-year-old has not long left to find the perfect replacement for the Dutch striker.

The Wolves already tried to sign the young striker in summer, but even then Basel put a stop to letting Embolo leave the club. It is a similar situation now, Wolfsburg has no chance to poach the shooting star before the winter transfer windows closes and have to wait until the next summer - because Basel said that they want to wait until the next transfer window for him to leave.

This news is positive as well as negative for Wolfsburg. On the one hand, Wolfsburg can plan with signing the striker in summer, but on the other hand, if he continues to play so well, Wolfsburg will not be the single contender to sign the player and have to fight a battle with other clubs for his signature.

Other options

On Klaus Allofs' list for potential replacements, Olympique Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette (24) should be at the top. The Frenchman would cost around €30m, which might be too much for the Wolves.

A striker, who is already approaching, is unknown Bruno Henrique from the second Brazilian division side Goias EC. The 25-year-old can play as a striker as well as winger and should replace want-away Nicklas Bendtner, who allegedly wants to move to THE Premier League.

Another player who seems to be joining Wolfsburg, but only in the summer, is 17-year-old highly talented Victor Osimhen. The striker, who had a massive say in winning the World Cup title with Nigeria U17's, got nominated in African Team of the Year and awarded as African Youth Player of the Year, will sign a contract soon.
