Victor Osimhen has opted for VfL Wolfsburg above the host of European football superpowers chasing him.

The Wolves announced he would be joining them on January 1st 2017. Arsenal, amongst others, had been keen to sign the 17-year-old forward.

A new partnership

The starlet's move marks the beginning of a new partnership between Wolfsburg and Ultimate Strikers Academy - Osimhen is the first player to benefit from it.

The elite players to come out of the pool in Nigeria will earn experience throughout the Volkswagen Arena outfit's ranks, including the first-team.

In the statement to announce the news, it was made clear that it will not just be players changing hands but also the DFB-Pokal winners' knowledge.

"Modern training techniques, sport medicine and sport technology" are a few of the main areas that the expertise will be used on.

One of the hottest prospects in football

Osihmen's incredible FIFA under-17 World Cup last summer showed just why he is highly sought-after.

The lanky centre-foward netted 10 times in seven games for Nigeria, as they went on to claim the trophy.

Those performances - along with the CAF under-17 Championship golden boot - earned him the acclaim of fans and pundits across the world, as well as this move.

Whether or not he can replicate this form with when he makes the move to Europe remains to be seen, however.

Striking problem still not solved

Despite the arrival of Osimhen in 2017, it does not help the Wolves' current dilemma in the striker spot.

Bas Dost is out with a broken foot and means that all the pressure has fallen on Max Kruse. Niklas Bendtner looks set to depart this month, leaving Kruse as the lone forward.

After their bid for Breel Embolo was rejected, it will surely be an interesting end to the transfer window from a Wolfsburg perspective.
