This is the third Player of the Month award ‘Chicharito’ has won in as many months, awarded by the official Bundesliga website.

Javier Hernandez received 63% of fan votes for the award, going up amongst strong competition consisting of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski.

It was a month which saw him bag two goals, with both coming in a 3-0 victory over Hannover 96.

Hernandez needs to be on form through February

After arriving in the Summer transfer window from Manchester United, Hernandez has played in every Bundesliga game so far since being at the club and has become Bayer’s go-to man. The Mexican has managed to score 13 goals in 16 games, which speaks volumes as looks to make a case for player of the season.

Bayer's next month of fixtures are incredibly important, with both home and away legs against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League this month. 'Die Werkself' host both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in February.

If Schmidt's men are to be successful this month Hernandez will be needed on top of his game, taking chances as they come, if they are to remain inside of the top four for the remainder of the season.

Not only was Hernandez named the Bundesliga player of the month for January, he was also voted the CONCACAF player of the year for 2015 for his exploits with Mexico, Real Madrid and Leverkusen.

Hernandez seems to have settled brilliantly in Leverkusen.

Kießling partnership

The Winter months have seen the blossoming of a new, dynamic striking partnership in the Bundesliga.

Formed with long time Bayer Leverkusen servant and German international Stefan Kießling, the duo got the goals in the team's most recent victory - a 3-0 win over Hannover.

The partnership on paper is set up for greatness. Kießling is a dominate presence in the air standing 6''3 tall, while Chicharito is the smaller, more agile forward, who will cause problems for defenders all game long, as shown by this month's award.
