German capital club Hertha BSC will host VfL Wolfsburg at the Olympiastadion. Both sides are losing form in the Bundesliga and a win for either will be a big confidence booster.
Hertha BSC are coming off a league loss, their first since the defeat to league leaders Bayern Munich, and are struggling to regain their first half form a bit. They have not won all three points since the second half of the Bundesliga season has started and are in jeopardy of falling out of a Champions League spot depending on the outcome of all of the results.
In their last match on the road against VfB Stuttgart, the capital club struggled mightily and looked nothing like that side from the opening half of the season. Stuttgart dominated every facet of the game and wholeheartedly deserved to win as they were more creative going forward and created more opportunities throughout the 90 minutes.
Wolfsburg, on the other hand, have regained a bit of form, across all competitions, and currently sit in the eighth spot in the Bundesliga table. This is a good sign especially with the knockout rounds of the Champions League underway and they will need all the confidence that is available to them. During league play though, their firm is still struggling considering the fact that they have only won one match since the calendar turned.
Their match in the middle of the week against Belgium side Gent was an absolute thriller. The visitors scored three stunning goals, which included a ten minute brace form Max Meyer. While the three away goals essentially sees them through to the next round, Gent managed to score two late goals to make the second leg more interesting as the German club will now have to hold their defensive lines and maintain their focus throughout.
One man who has really disappointed in his debut season with Wolfsburg is Max Kruse. Across all competitions, he has only found the back of the net seven times in 24 matches. This is not a very good output, especially considering the fact that his current club paid 12 million Euros for him from Borussia Monchengladbach. If Kruse wants to show his new club that he is worth his price tag, scoring a few more goals before the end of the season would certainly do the trick.
The three attacking midfielders, Genki Haraguchi, Vladimir Darida, and Salomon Kalou, need to be at their best against a good Wolfsburg defense. They will have to constantly look for space to send in Vedad Ibisevic or send diagonal passes to each other. If the front three and be a constant threat during the entire match, creating multiple opportunities, then Hertha should have a very good chance of winning all three points.
This contest will be cagey to start out with neither side willing to risk creating a turnover to give the other side a chance to break up the other side of the pitch. However, Hertha do have enough about them to go on and win three points.
