Schalke 04 have made their third signing of the summer transfer window, after they announced the arrival of Breel Embolo from FC Basel.

While neither club made the fee official, it is believed to be between €20-25m. Embolo has signed a five-year deal with the Veltins-Arena outfit.

The Swiss starlet joins the club just a day after being knocked out of Euro 2016 with his country, following a penalty shoot-out defeat to Poland.

Rapid rise to fame

The 19-year-old has been in the spotlight for some time after scoring 10 goals in each of Basel's last two victorious league-winning seasons.

Embolo shot onto the scene after scoring on his domestic debut against FC Aarau; just five minutes after coming off the bench and a month following his 17th birthday.

Since then he has gone on to be a thorn in the opposition's side, with his physical ability matched by raw pace to give defenders a real problem.

Embolo, as well as playing up front, can also be used out wide and is more than capable at setting up his team-mates; 14 assists in two years would suggest just that.

He joins Naldo and Robert Leipertz as Schalke's summer arrivals to date, with more deals expected over the coming months.

Quite the coup

Christian Heidel, Schalke's new sporting director, spoke to the club website upon the confirmation of the deal:

"With Breel Embolo we have signed an attacker, who already has a lot of international experience, that is highly talented and was wanted by many of Europe's top clubs."

Heidel isn't wrong. Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund are just a few of the teams that have shown interest in the last 18 months.
