It’s been a busy few days at the Commerzbank-Arena as Eintracht Frankfurt completed their fourth signing this month with the capture of midfielder Omar Mascarell from Real Madrid.

On Tuesday the club announced the signings of Ante Rebic, on loan from Fiorentina, and Israeli defender Taleb Tawatha, following the arrival of Danny Blum from Nürnberg last Friday. They have also brought in Branimir Hrgota from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

And on Wednesday came their latest signing, with the 23-year-old defensive midfielder signing a three-year contract with the club for an undisclosed fee.

Limited chances at the Bernabeu

Whilst the capture of a player from the European champions will excite many Eintracht fans, Mascarell in fact only made one appearance for Real, coming on as a substitute in José Mourinho’s final match in charge against Osasuna in June 2013.

Since then he has gained further experience with their B team, Real Madrid Castilla, and has had loan spells in England with Derby County and spent last season back in his native Spain with Sporting Gijón.

He made 26 appearances for them in La Liga, without scoring, in a season which saw them only narrowly beat the drop, finishing just one place and a point above Rayo Vallecano.

Mascrell looking forward to playing for Eintracht

Sporting Director Bruno Hübner is naturally delighted with the club’s new signing. “We are very pleased that that we could get a player such as Omar Mascarell for Eintracht Frankfurt, who has completed a full education with Real Madrid,” he said.

Hübner also praised his control on the ball and his “good vision.”

As for Mascarell himself, he says he is “very happy” and is looking forward to playing for the club. He praised the club’s “many passionate fans” who are “always behind the team.” He added that “I want to really help the team and hope that we have a good season.”

The Eagles will hope that he will bring a touch of Spanish style to the side, as they look to do better in the Bundesliga after last season’s relegation battle.
