On Sunday afternoon high-flying Eintracht Braunschweig hosted a Nürnberg side yet to pick up three points this season. Despite taking the lead Nürnberg failed to build on their opener and in the end fell to a humiliating defeat as Braunschweig continued their winning start with a 6-1 triumph.

Der Club take the lead against the run of play

Braunschweig settled into the game straight away and they managed to create two good opportunities from freekick's out on the the right wing.  Nik Omladič delivered both freekick's, the first went all the way through and into Raphael Schäfer's arms as Saulo Decarli narrowly missed the ball when he stretched to get on the end of the cross. The second set piece managed to find the head of Gustav Valsvik, who could only direct the ball wide of the goal.

The next chance also fell to the host's as Even Hovland failed to clear Salim Khelifi's cross from the right and this allowed Julius Biada the chance to try his luck from just inside the area, however his effort forced Schäfer into a comfortable save.

Despite having the most of possession and a few early chances it was the Braunschweig that found themselves conceding first. A mistake on the wing lead to Tim Leibold skipping down the line before cutting the ball back from the byline towards Guido Burgstaller, who managed to head towards the goal after falling to the ground and despite his attempt to clear off the line Patrick Schönfeld couldn't clear and ended up dragging the ball into the goal along with him.

Die Löwen tried to bounce back quickly, however they struggled to create clear cut chances and the confidence of the goal saw Der Club gain more control in the match.

For the away side Tobias Kempe looked lively throughout the first half and caused problems for the home side. With ten minutes left of the first half the winger had a sight of goal, Burgstaller nodded the ball back to Kempe on the edge of the area and his volley flew over.

A quick fire double sees the home side go ahead before the break

Braunschweig came close to levelling things three minutes from the break and they had massive claims for a penalty. Khelifi played the ball into Biada, who tried to pick out his strike partner Dominick KumbelaLászló Sepsi was there to stop an easy tap in for Kumbela however the ball struck Schäfer and then bounced back and struck Sepsi on the arm before falling into Schäfer's arms. The officials failed to spot the handball and play continued to the relief of Sepsi and Nürnberg.

The home side quickly forgot about the decision and a minute later they finally levelled things for a bit of justice. Omladič delivered a corner from the right which flew over the six yard box, Schäfer didn't come to claim and Hanno Behrens could only poke the ball into the path of Kumbela, who made no mistakes in smashing the ball home.

The first half action didn't stop there as the last minute of additional time saw the home side gain the lead to shock their guests. Another corner from the right and although this time Nürnberg cleared, it was only to Ken Reichel and the defender fired at goal from twenty-two yards out, Schäfer saved once again however he could only parry the ball out to Decarli, who shot from seventeen yards out and excellently fired into the top right corner.

Braunschweig extend their advantage

Die Löwen continued on their momentum from the end of the first half and ten minutes into the second half they managed to grab some breathing space. Once again from a set piece, this time a freekick from the left saw Omladič pick out Decarli at the back post, his volley was brilliantly saved by Schäfer, however his efforts were wasted as the rebound went straight back to Decarli and the defender poked in from a yard out.

Nürnberg continued to fall apart and just after the hour mark they were punished once more. Leibold lost out in a battle against Khelifi and the winger flew down the left wing and his cross struck the arm of Dave Bulthuis and deflected into the Nürnberg net.

The away side showed no sign's of giving up and shortly after conceding a fourth they came close on a couple of occasions. First up was Behrens, a cross fell to him on the edge of the area and his volley was dragged just wide. The next opportunity saw Edgar Salli burst down the left and his cross almost found it's way to the free Burgstaller, unfortunately for Der Club Reichel was alert and managed to clear the danger.

After some sustained pressure from Nürnberg the home side almost managed to grab another goal to add to Der Club's misery, however it wasn't to be. A long ball forward saw Kumbela race towards goal, Schäfer couldn't hold the ball after coming out and Kumbela picked out new signing Christoffer Nyman, who's effort rolled into Khelifi and after managing to turn in the area he could only drag his effort wide.

Before the end of the game things got a lot worse for Nürnberg as they conceded another quickfire double at the end of the second half. The home side made it five-one with the goal of the game, Omladič picked up the ball on the right and did excellently as he breezed past two defenders to cut inside and wonderfully curled the ball into the far bottom corner with a lovely left footed strike.

The winger once again caused problems for Nürnberg as he flew down the right and perfectly cut the ball back to new boy Nyman, who tapped in with ease for his first goal for the club after being allowed to drift into the area unmarked.

That proved to be the last of the action in a disastrous second half for Nürnberg and they were more than pleased the game was quickly brought to a close. Braunschweig made the most of their set pieces and in the end cruised to victory and in doing so leaping to the top of the table.

Up next for Braunschweig they travel away to Erzgebirge Aue as they'll look to extend their winning start to the season. As for Nürnberg they have to wait for their first win of the season and up next they host 1860 München
