Serie A 2011/2012: Week 35 in Statistics
Serie A kicked off with the Sicilian derby between Palermo and Catania. Nicola Legrottaglie scored first for Catania in the 25th minute to become the Capocannoniere of the Serie A defenders as he scored his fifth goal of the season more than any other Serie A defender. In the second half Fabrizio Miccoli scored the equalizer for the Rosanero and raised his tally to 13 goals and 12 assists which is 52.1% of Palermo’s goals this season. Palermo have now failed to win in 10 of their last 11 Serie A matches, and they only managed to win one derby from the last eight. While Catania only won once in the last seven Serie A games.
For the fourth week in a row Chievo fail to score this time they were lucky to steal a point from Cagliari at the Sant'Elia stadium. Chievo have failed to win in their last four games, while Cagliari are undefeated in their last five home games. This was the first time that Cagliari fail to score at the Sant'Elia stadium since the 22nd of January.
The battle for the Champions League spot in the Olimpico Stadium ended in a 2-2 draw between Roma and Napoli. Roma have now won only one of their last five Serie A encounters and have conceded at least two goals in six of their last seven games, while Napoli are unbeaten in their last three games scoring two goals in each of their last three matches. El Matador Edison Cavani has not missed scoring in any of his last three games for Napoli, raising his tally to 22 goals this season behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic with four goals in the race for the Capocannoniere title.
Coach Luigi De Canio suffered his second loss in a row with his new team Genoa against the Rossoblu Bologna. Bologna are now unbeaten in their last five games, while Genoa lost 10 of their last 12 away fixtures, they did not win any of their last 14 Serie A games, they hold the worst defense conceding 66 goals and they got only one clean sheet from their last 23 games. Alessandro Diamanti is directly involved in five goals in Bologna’s last four games now and on the other side Rodrigo Palacio raised his tally to 18 goals and five assists which is 50% of Genoa’s goals this campaign.
At the Silvio Piola stadium Juventus crushed Novara 4-0. Marco Borriello scored for the second week in a row, Mirko Vucinic scored a brace raising his tally to five goals in the last three games as he scored twice and assisted three goals and Arturo Vidal came with his third goal in the last three games for The Old Lady. Andrea Pirlo gave his 12th assist of the season equalizing Fabrizio Miccoli’s record this season, while Gianluigi Buffon got his 20th clean sheet of the season a new personal record for the Azzurri goalkeeper. Juventus are now with eight wins in a row for the first time since the beginning of the 2005-06 season, they remain undefeated in 35 Serie A games, holding the best goal difference with +44 and the strongest defense conceding 18 goals in 35 games, on the other hand Novara got only one win their last seven games.
AC Milan returned with a victory from the Artemio Franchi stadium, after they beat Siena 4-1. Antonio Cassano started for the first time after six months and what a return as the Italian scored a goal and assisted two. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored his 26th goal of the season beating his personal record back in 2008/09. Antonio Nocerino reached double figures in scoring for the first time in his career as footballer playing in any division. This was Siena’s worst defeat of the season at the Artemio Franchi, now the Bianconeri have not won except one of their last four games, while AC Milan are undefeated in their last seven away games and still hold the best offense in Serie A scoring 68 goals.
Lecce are suffering a drop in form as they failed to win in their last three games, Parma defeated Lecce 2-1 at the Via del Mare stadium. Parma have now won the last four games in a row and they only suffered one loss in their last seven matches. Sebastian Giovinco was directly involved in six goals in the last seven games for Parma, the atomic ant is now directly involved in 43.75% of Parma’s goals as he scored as he scored 13 and assisted eight goals.
Atalanta ended Fiorentina’s four games unbeaten streak after defeating them 2-0. Atalanta got their third win from the last four matches and their second clean sheet in a row, German Denis scored his first goal since last February and is now directly involved in 47.5% of La Dea’s goals this season. Fiorentina have failed to score in three of their last four encounters.
Inter Milan remain unbeaten with new coach Andrea Stramaccioni after defeating Cesena 2-1 at the Giuseppe Meazza. Inter Milan are undefeated in the last six games winning the last two, while Cesena lost the last two and failed to win in the last 17 games. Cesena remain the team with the worst offensive record this season scoring only 22 goals and they are the team that suffered the most losses as they lost 21 games.
Lazio suffered a 1-0 loss against Udinese in the Friuli Stadium. Lazio are now without a win in their last four games and they lost six of their last seven away fixtures. Udinese have scored at least 2 goals in 6 of their last 7 home matches against the Biancocelesti in all competitions, the Bianconeri got only their second win from the last 10 games, Antonio Di Natale raised his tally to 21 goals and seven assists which is 59.5% of Udinese’s goals this season.
