According to German newspaper Bild, Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez is on the verge of signing for SSC Napoli.

Despite scoring 2 goals against Stuttgart on Saturday and helping Bayern lift the German Cup, the forward currently sits behind Mandžukić in the pecking order.  It is claimed that Gomez risks falling yet further behind following the signing of Götze and the potential arrival of Lewandowski.

With Cavani expected to leave Napoli this summer, a move there would give Gomez the regular football he needs to secure his World Cup place in 2014.

Although he moved to Bayern for an estimated €35 million in 2009, the edition of Bild has claimed that Napoli would sign the German international in a deal worth just €20 million.
