Napoli President De Laurentiis has rejected talks with star striker Edinson Cavani following the Uruguayan’s request to clarify the speculation surrounding his future.  Il Corriere dello Sport quotes De Laurentiis as saying “There is no need for a face-to-face meeting...as there is a release clause.”

Following Uruguay’s Confederations Cup defeat to Brazil, Cavani had told Sky Sport Italia “I’ll talk to the President, man-to-man.”  This statement seemed to be a response to earlier remarks made by De Laurentiis to Radio Rai, when he suggested that if Cavani were a real man he would indeed remain at the club.

Despite Cavani’s comments to Sky Sport Italia, in which he also stated that he fully respects the city of Naples and its team, this latest statement from De Laurentiis throws his Napoli future into further doubt.
