After signing a contract extension with A.C. Milan, Robinho is targeting new successes at the San Siro: " I am happy to know that the club wanted to renew my contract. I am hopeful that this can be a successful year for both Milan and I. I had already said that Milan are a team you should play for over 10 years.”

The 29 year old, who has signed a deal that runs to June 2016, is looking to earn a spot in the Brazilian squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup: "This year is a very important one for me, as it is a World Cup year."

Brazilian club, Santos, were reportedly close to signing Robinho, but they were unable to meet Milan's financial demands. The club stated on their official website: "The sum of the transaction, including the payment to the Italian club and the athlete's salary remains far from the reality of Brazilian football."

Robinho struggled for form during the 2012/13 season, as he only scored two goals in 27 games. The forward is currently behind the likes of El Shaarawy and Balotelli in the pecking order at the San Siro.
