New Fiorentina signing, Josip Ilicic, spoke of his pride at joining La Viola during his first official press conference today: "I am very proud to be at Fiorentina. When Fiorentina’s offer arrived, I immediately said yes. I wanted to come here, to join a strong team. I was not interested in what other clubs wanted me."

The Slovenian international stated that he feels the squad are capable of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League this year: This squad deserves the Champions League. Last season it was obvious how good they were and now there are newer players like Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Gomez. My initial objective is to find my form, as right now my teammates are at a far more advanced stage of fitness training.”

Ilicic, who signed from Palermo, also spoke of the much calmer atmosphere at Fiorentina, than at his previous club: " Fiorentina seem like a much calmer club and the atmosphere is not as pressurized. As for Palermo, it’s difficult to play well when you change coach every three months."

The 25 year old attacking midfielder had a strong end to the 2012/13 Serie A campaign, despite his club being relegated to the second tier of Italian football. Ilicic scored 11 goals in 31 games, his best Serie A return so far.

Fiorentina see Josip Ilicic as an ideal replacement for Jovetic, who signed for Manchester City last week.
