Genoa and Inter kicked off the set of Sunday fixtures in competitive style. While it appeared at times to be heading for a draw, Inter were able to seal the win late.

The first half started off in a fashion typical of early season football. Both sides looked a bit rusty, and communication was certainly lacking. This was never more evident than in the final third, as where both teams created chances, neither side registered a shot on goal until the second period. Inter's Jonathon came closest after pulling up on a break and flashing one wide of the far post from his RWB position.

Chances come quick in the second half, but again no real shot on goal. A few minutes in Handanovic had to come off his line to take the ball off the feet of Genoa hitman Alberto Gliardino following a fine knockdown by Andrea Bertolacci.  Shortly after that Jonathon sent a dangerous cross across the face of goal but it was to no avail.

Genoa looked likely to break the deadlock first as Kucka had a fantastic chance on 57 minutes via a beautiful chipped through ball which picked out his run into the box, but his first touch let him down and there was nothing to come aside from a cleared attempted cross.

Finally Inter were able to find the back of the net as Yuto Nagatomo opened his account for the season, and once again it was Brazilian Jonathon creating the chance as his cross took a deflection towards Palacio and Nagatomo. The Japanese wingback rose to the occasion and powered home past Perrin for the lead.

Inter almost put the game out of reach at the 82nd minute as an Icardi header from a corner was unlucky enough to hit the crossbar as it clearly had Perrin beat. Genoa manager Fabio Liverani antic's from the touchline were a noble attempt to get his team forward, but it was to no avail.

A Guarin interception led to a counter attack, and with almost nobody back he was able to run for 30 meteres or so before letting Palacio run onto a perfectly placed through ball, and that was all she wrote. 2-0 Inter, match decided.

There were definitely promising signs for Inter as Guarin picked up where he left off, Icardi looked dangerous coming on late in the game, as did Kovacic. Jonathon may be the surprise of the season as he was full of running down the right flank; certainly Inter's man of the match.

For Genoa it was not all bad, they were very competitive up until what can be described as a somewhat lucky first goal, while the second was the product of trying to grab an equalizer. The midfield certainly showed promise, and once it starts to click they should create ample chances for Gilardino who looked active. Youngster Mattia Perrin played well in goal, and captain Portanova had an excellent game in defense.  Inter next play Catania away, while Genoa continue with their tough schedule by welcoming Fiorentina to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
