You'll be kicking yourself if you missed this weekend's action (unless you happen to be Juve fan), as it was one of the most dramatic in recent memory.  Roma stay atop the table, Giuseppe Rossi netted a hat trick, Valter Birsa hit a golazo, Freddy Guarin a scissor kick goal, and 11 penalties were doled out in what was non-stop action!

Roma 2 - 0 Napoli

A Miralem Pjanic brace was enough to do the trick for Roma who improved to 8 wins from 8 matches. What the score doesn't show are injuries to Francesco Totti and Miguel Britos who both left the match early. Paolo Cannavaro came on for Britos, and contributed two fouls, for which he received two yellow cards, and Pjanic received two goals, one via the penalty spot, the other a superb costless kick.

Cagliari 2 -1 Catania

In what was an emotional return following an 18 month hiatus from their stadium, Cagliari were able to secure a victory in front of a limited number of fans largely in thanks to Victor Ibarbo. After Bergessio opened the scoring on 5 minutes for I Elefanti, the Colombian led the Rossoblu attack which registered 29 shots on goal, and contributed a goal, as well as winning a penalty which saw Catania defenseman Nicola Legrottaglie sent off.  Catania coach Rolando Maran has been fired as a result, despite guiding the club to its best ever 7th place finish last year.

19:45GMT

Milan 1 - 0 Udinese

Milan finally managed a win, that, given the circumstances, actually looks quite favourable. Missing a plethora of key players they got a splendid goal from Valter Birsa, and several key stops from debutante keeper Gabriel to keep a Udine side goalless, and pointless away from the Stadio Friuli.

Sunday

11:30GMT

Atalanta 2 - 1 Lazio

In a match that took some time to come alive, it was the man of consistency German Denis himself who broke a 1-1 deadlock in the 84th minute to secure a win for the nerazzurri. After a splend half-volley from Luca Cigarini broke open the scoring, Perea equalized for Lazio just minutes after the restart. The biancoceleste look in danger of missing out on Europe next year as they fall to 9th in the table; Atalanta jumped them moving up 7th place with 12 points.

14:00GMT

Genoa 2 - 1 Chievo

Two goals from Alberto Gilardino were enough to see Genoa to victory Sunday afternoon over Chievo Verona. The visitors drew level through a Simone Bentivoglio goal after a superb header from Gilardino sent Il Grifone ahead. With the win Genoa improve to 2-2-4 while Chievo fall to 1-1-6.  They have recorded the fewest positive results in Italy.

Sassuolo 2 - 1 Bologna

Last year's promotion winners won the batte of the bottom dwellers as Sassuolo held on to beat Bologna 2-1.  After going up early 2-0 via Antonio Floro Flores and a Domenico Berardi penalty, Bologna got one back through a Diamanti spot kick goal. It would not be enough, and Bologna have fallen to dead last with only 3 points from 8 matches. They have surprisingly confirmed they will retain manager Stefano Pioli for the time being.

Fiorentina 4 - 2 Juventus

La Viola recorded their first victory in Florence over their old rivals, Juventus, in 15 years, courtesy of a hat trick from Giuseppe Rossi and one from Joaquin. Juventus had taken what looked like an unassailable lead into half time, with goals from Carlos Tevez and Paul Pogba seemingly making an extension of La Vecchia Signora's great run in Florence an inevitability. However, Rossi's conversion of a 66th miunte penalty, coupled with his 25 yard strike ten minutes later, cancelled out Juve's advantage.  While Juventus pushed forward in search of the winner, La Viola were able to capitalise and score another two goals. This result leaves Juventus in 3rd place, whilst Fiorentina have climbed to 5th.

Verona 3 - 2 Parma

It was penalties galore in Verona as the hosts use two, one from Jorginho, and one from Luca Toni to ensure they got the better of Parma after falling behind 1-2. The first half saw Fabrizio Cacciatore get his third goal of the season, followed by a Marco Parolo shot from distance before Cassano up the visitors ahead. The win was the 4th consecutive at home for Verona (12 points from 12 possible), and only saw a continuation of away woes for Parma who have struggled outside the confines of the Ennio Tardini.

Livorno 1 - 2 Sampdoria

This match saw action early and late as Sampdoria went ahead on an Eder penalty (won by De Silvestri) around the 20 minute mark, and then got a winner via the penalty spot from Nicola Pozzi in stoppage time. Livorno looked the more dominant side in the first half, and appeared to be vindicated through Luca Siligardi's goal in stoppage time. Pozzi's penalty came just minutes after and that was all she wrote. With the win Sampdoria climb out of the relegation zone to 16th, and Livorno fall to 14th.

19:45GMT

Torino 3 - 3 Internazionale

The nightcap was anything but a disappointment checking in as one of if not the most exciting fixtures of the weekend. After Inter keeper Handanovic got sent off inside 10 minutes, Torino striker Alessio Cerci saw his penalty saved by the backup Carrizo and that was only the beginning.  Farnerud, then a Guarin bycicle kick made it 1-1 at the half.  Immobile then Palacio saw it 2-2 around 55 minutes, followed by Palacio on 74 minutes, before late substitute, starlet Nicola Bellomo, hit a cross that flew over the head of Carrizo, who misjudged it, and just under the bar to level it at 3-3 with only stoppage time to spare. CLAMOROSO!! The draw saw Torino move up to 10th, and Inter climb to 5th.
