In his first press conference as Juventus coach, Max Allegri has stated that the call from Marotta was a "bolt from the blue":

“It was a bolt from the blue when I was asked as to my availability for the job. I’m happy, honoured and I know how big a job this is. From tomorrow I’ll start working alongside the club and team to build for an important and winning season.”

Allegri acknowledged the successes of former coach, Antonio Conte, stating that “He represented a great deal as a player and manager, he dominated and achieved great things in Italy". However, looking to the future, the former AC Milan manager quoted legendary Juventus president Gianni Agnelli:

"The next win is always the most beautiful."

"Winning the fans over will require victories, hard work, respect and professionalism. I spent four years at a big club like AC Milan previously and consider myself ready to continue the run of success that Juve have had over the past three seasons.”

When asked by the press what he hopes to achieve during his time at La Vecchia Signora, the 46 year old made explicit his intentions to improve upon Juve's recent performances in the Champions League. Despite an incredible 2013/14 domestic season in which the club finished with a record 102 points, Juventus were disappointing on the continental stage, failing to make it out of the group stages, winning just one game in the process.

We'll compete for the title all the way. As for Europe, we need to have a great run in the Champions League. We’ll try to enjoy an excellent Champions League campaign, just as Atletico Madrid did last season. Juventus must be among the top eight teams in Europe, it’s our duty.”
