Serie A side Napoli are reportedly interested in Villarreal's creative midfielder Jonathan de Guzman and Manchester United defensive midfielder Marouane Fellaini, as they look to bolster their midfield options ahead of the start of the new campaign at the end of August.

de Guzman has spent the past two seasons on-loan at Swansea in the Premier League, but the two clubs have been so far unable to secure a deal for a permanent move - and Napoli have admitted their interest in the 26-year-old Dutch playmaker.

It is believed that Napoli would be happy to make a loan move for de Guzman, with a chance to sign him permanently after the 12-month loan spell for a fee of £5million pounds although it is unsure whether Villarreal will part company with him again.

Meanwhile, it is thought that van Gaal has told Fellaini that he is NOT in the team's plans ahead of the start of the new campaign in the English top flight - so he could also be open to a move in an attempt to get more first-team football. Fellaini is also on Napoli's radar, and it is thought that United will be willing to take a cut-price fee of up to £15million pounds for Fellaini's departure.

Fellaini is a good player, but struggled under intense pressure last season after being unveiled as a deadline day signing in a £27.5million pound move from Everton thanks to former coach David Moyes. Napoli will be eager to take advantage of the situation surrounding his future right now and offer him a deal to move to Italy, which he is likely to accept given his current situation at Old Trafford.
