Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado has signed a new four-year contract extension to stay with the Italian club and end any speculation linking him with Manchester United.

The Colombian was a World Cup hero for his country and Louis Van Gaal chased his signature all summer, but in the end, opted to sign Angel Di Maria for £60m instead.

Barcelona were also interested in Cuadrado and a transfer tug-of-war between the Catalans and Manchester United looked imminent, but neither could wrap up a deal before the transfer window closed and the 26-year-old has pledged his immediate future to the Serie A side until 2018.

Cuadrado was a star turn in the Fiorentina line-up last season, with 11 goals in 31 appearances as the Viola finished in fourth-place. He also has five goals in 31 appearances for Colombia, including a goal in the 4-1 win over Japan in this summer's World Cup.

The winger admitted to holding talks with both Manchester United and Barcelona, but insists he is more than happy to continue playing for Fiorentina.

"We had spoken with them [Manchester United and Barcelona] but the truth is that I've always remained calm," he said.

"I'm happy to stay another season, I'm fine here."
