Sampdoria came into this game in fine form, 19 points from their opening 10 games represented a good solid start. They really showed their quality last week with a commanding 3-1 victory over Fiorentina at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. Their manager, Siniša Mihajlović prior to this game said that if ''they were to stay in heaven, they'd have to beat the devils {Milan}''. Milan on the other hand came into this game on the back of an embarrassing 2-0 defeat at home - Palermo. Milan showed no fight that game and were booed off at the final whistle, Inzaghi said post-match that they were rightly booed by the fans. It seems like the honeymoon period is over for Pippo's men. However 3 points tonight could go a long way into their season if they were able to attain it.

This is how both teams lined up :

Sampdoria XI: Romero; De Silvestri, Gastaldello, Silvestre, Mesbah; Soriano,Obiang, Duncan; Gabbiadini, Okaka & Eder.

AC Milan XI: Diego López; De Sciglio, Mexès , Rami, Bonera; Essien, De Jong,Bonaventura; Honda, Ménez & El Shaarawy.

Ref:  Daniele Orsato.

Goalscorers: Sampdoria - Okaka & Eder.  AC Milan - El Shaarawy & Ménez.

Milan were quick out the blocks and dictated the pace of the game. In the opening 9 minutes they made their early pressure pay off. This was through El Shaarawy who curled a sensational effort into the far corner from just outside the box. That was 'The Pharaoh' first Serie A goal since 23rd February 2013, 622 days ago. With Italy coach Antonio Conte in the crowd and many of El Shaarawy's family in the crowd, being that he is from Savona and progressed through Genoa's youth academy - Sampdoria's arch-rivals. You could see the goal meant a great deal to him as he clenched his fits and the relief was evident on his face. However Sampdoria were putting on the pressure after Milan's goal. Diego López was called into action as he finger tipped Eder's effort - fully stretched. Then Manolo Gabbiadini knock the ball around López however Daniele Bonera was on hand to stop him from firing into an open net. This time it was Sergio Romero who was being worked, Giacomo Bonaventura's snapshot was parried away by the Argentinian international. 12 minutues later, Sampdoria spurred a golden chance. De Silvestri headed over from a corner unmarked, brilliantly crossed in by Gabbiadini. Their late push in the first half was to be rewarded as Gabbiadini crossed the ball in superbly for Okaka who got in front of Bonera and volleyed his effort at full stretch past López on the stroke of half-time.

5 minutes after the break Sampdoria's comeback was complete. This was when Pedro Obiang rose above his markers and saw his header thump the post, his effort inadvertently ended up at Eder's feet as he was the first person to react for a tap-in. 13 minutes later Milan were awarded a penalty. This was through Ménez cross which ended up hitting the former Rossoneri, Djamel Mesbah. He mistimed his blocked subsequently slipping and hitting the ball away with his arm. Ménez sent Sergio Romero, the hero for Argentina over their penalty shootout win - Holland in the semi-final of this summer's world cup, the wrong way. This was the Frenchman's first goal since Milan's 5-4 victory at the Tardini over Parma in September. Milan had a spring in their step after the goal and you could sense the momentum shifting. Efforts from El Shaarawy and Essien were blocked by the home side before substitute Fernando Torres played in Giacomo Bonaventura whose angled shot was dragged wide skimming the far post. For the last 6 minutes Milan had to play with 10 men as Bonera was sent off for a second bookable offence - blocking Okaka after Sampdoria were quick on the counter-attack. This means Bonera is suspended for the Derby della Madonnina against Inter on 23rd November. Sampdoria nearly snatched all three points as Soriano's powerful strike was well saved by Milan's number 1, Diego López.

Considering Milan ended with 10 men and were only brought back into the game through a fortunate penalty, they would feel the slightly happier side with the draw however not fully content. Sampdoria continue their impressive start to the season by avoiding defeat to another top club and keeping their unbeaten run at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris going.
