Napoli won the 27th edition of the Supercoppa Italiana thanks to the penalty shootout. Carlos Tevez's brace looked to have been enough for Juventus to win their seventh title (to go one ahead of Milan who are also tied on six) but Higuaín was on hand to stop this from occurring two minutes from the end in extra time. The Argentinean also scored a brace on the evening.

It only took 5 minutes for the first goal of the game. Carlos Tevez took advantage of some poor defending from the Napoli back line. Kalidou Koulibaly and Raúl Albiol collided into one another when attempting to clear David López's headed back pass, allowing the Argentine Tevez to go through on goal one on one versus Rafael coolly slotting past the Brazilian. Napoli tried responding through their skipper, Marek Hamšík his snapshot took a deflection from the Italian, Giorgio Chiellini and ended up hitting the post leaving Gigi Buffon static.

Tevez was in inspired form throughout the half and could have completed his brace. His powerful half-volley after great work from the Spainard, Fernando Llorente and the Italian, Andrea Pirlo stung the palms of Rafael in goal. Rafael was again on hand moments later stopping Tevez sending his strike round the post. Gonzalo Higuaín was the next player to have a chance from the club from Naples. His fine curler was saved brilliantly by the former World Cup winner Gigi Buffon concluding the first half.

Napoli started off better and really should have equalized 14 minutes after the interval. The Slovakian, Hamšík played a sublime ball to the newly capped Spanish international, José Callejón however he flashed his angled strike just wide. The Spaniard really should have done better. The woodwork was again rattled as Napoli continued the pressure on Juventus. Higuaín was played in and his scoop over Buffon hit the inside of the far post.

The Frenchman, Patrice Evra tried to double Juventus's lead but Rafael parried his effort away. After spurring countless opportunities Napoli finally equalized. Jonathan de Guzmán put in a teasing ball in from the left met by the Argentine Higuaín who headed home. Tevez could have won the game in the dying seconds after Llorente passed him the ball only for him to hit his effort wide.

The game went into extra time in Doha, Vidal had a great chance to give Juventus the lead but Koulibaly was on hand to clear at the vital time. 90 seconds into the second-half of injury time Juventus restored their lead. Pogba who had been anonymous in the game produced a piece of magic on the end of box to go past a few Napoli defenders played the ball into Tevez who let the ball go through his legs leaving behind Koulibaly and his strike deceiving the Brazilian Rafael. Napoli responded two minutes before the end. Higuaín was on hand to complete his brace, he reacted first in the box to strike sending Buffon the wrong way subsequently leading the match into extra-time.

It was Napoli who eventually ended up winning the penalty shoot-out and the Supercoppa Italiana in dramatic fashion with a 6-5 win.
