Genoa bosses have rewarded manager Gian Piero Gasperini for the clubs sixth place finish last season with a new two-year deal with the option of a third the club confirmed today.

Club president Enrico Preziosi confirmed the news after a meeting with Gasperini today and a statement from the club soon followed on their club website.

"After meeting with Preziosi at the Grifone headquarters, the Coach, who has had a fantastic season with his lads, has reached an agreement for the extension of his contract,” the statement read.

An elated Gasperini, 58, was quoted as saying, "I’m very happy, it’s destiny for Genoa to be in my life,” 

The intention is build a competitive team for the new season to reach our goals. It would be nice to start the next season with the same enthusiasm as we finished this one.”

Gasperini took over the reigns of Genoa early on in the 2013/14 Serie A season after being sacked by Inter Milan and his contract was due to expire next summer before the extension.
