Luca Toni has put pen to paper on a new one year deal at Hellas Verona the club confirmed today.

The 38 year old will be entering his 21st season as a pro having started out professionally at Modena way back in 1994.

"Luca Toni has extended his contract with Hellas Verona FC,” a statement on the club's official website read.

"The best goalscorer Hellas’ top-flight history is ready to write a new page in his career and in the history of Verona.”

Toni is Verona's record goalscorer in Italy's top flight having scored 42 in approximately 70 games since arriving in the summer of 2013.

The World Cup winning striker also expressed his joy at extending his Verona stay and gave a special thanks to club president Maurizio Setti, "I’m delighted to carry on this journey in gialloblu. This is the correct choice for me and my family. I give special thanks to the President, the club and also the fans," he said.

"As long as I’m feeling this way, I’ll keep on playing football. I can’t wait to get the new season underway.

Forza Verona!"

Last season Toni netted 22 Serie A goals on his route to joint Capocannoniere glory with Inter's Mauro Icardi who was only a year old when Toni started.

Toni has played for a whole host of clubs over the world in his long career including the likes of Bayern Munich whom he signed for €12 million from Fiorentina where he had two spells respectively. He has also played in Asia with UAE side Al Nasr.

The striker who has been a goalscorer wherever he's found himself had been heavily linked with a move to Australia's A League to sign a marquee contract although no teams interested were disclosed but the move is indefinitely off the cards after this extension.
