In what has been a quiet summer on the market for Lazio, the team is now set to extend the contracts of two returning players.

Lazio is hoping that by keeping their team together from last year, they will enjoy the same success. It is being reported by Corrierre dello Sport that the club has agreed to new deals with Senad Lulic and Federico Marchetti.

It is believed that the deals will be signed following Saturdays Supercoppa Italiana match against the defending Scudetto champions Juventus.

Keeping things together

Lazio have been quiet this off season in the transfer market, much to the surprise of many. The team is trying not to change much of the chemistry the team had from last season.

Last season, the club enjoyed a good campaign with a third place finish in Serie A. The team finished behind rivals Roma by one point and marginally behind Serie A Champions Juventus.

Marchetti has been a regular in the lineup for Lazio since team President Claudio Lotito activated his €5.2 million release clause from Cagliari at the end of the 2010-11 season.

Year after year Marchetti continues to be in fine form helping his club raise in the standings and also leading his team to a Coppa Italia title in 2013. Marchetti has helped his defensive line and been everything the team has needed him to be since arriving at Lazio; thus making the contract renewal a big one for the club from Rome.

As for Lulic, the midfielder is another great renewal for the club. Much like his goalkeeper, the 29-year-old has continued to grow and be a key contributor to Lazio with some timely goals since joining the team in 2011.

Big season ahead

What better way to get back into form if they were to win the Supercoppa over the defending champions, and also the Champions League runner-ups.

For Lazio, the Supercoppa is a great game to gain confidence for a roster who surprised many by finishing third in Serie A, and consistently climb the standings year after year. Not to mention that the team has qualified for the Champions League qualifiers after their third place finish last season.

Although the team had a quiet transfer market, expect sort of the same out of this team this upcoming season. They should compete and be contenders to finish in at least the top five once again.
